The mention of "find my Mac" brings to mind the idea of "chipping"
equipment with RFID tags, similar to how they are used for pets and in
may retail environments.
Here's an article on high-end tags made into fibers (making them
virtually impossible to find in fabric goods, but more "ordinary" tags
are much cheaper and can be hidden in most equipment:
