Huh? To my ears, Amon Tobin's "Bricolage" is far more influenced by
*jazz* than d'nb. But I haven't heard anything else by Amon Tobin to
make any further judgement.
Anybody??

weell, i would say amon IS d'n'b, with a massive jazz influence. as is
squarepusher. tho' as there are different strains of d'n'b, so there is a
wide range of jazz. the jazz that influences each of them is pretty
different. god i knew this would get confusing. the eps amon released
accompanying bricolage ("chomp samba", "creatures",...) are v similar to
the lp. the stuff amon did as cujo - "adventures in foam", is a bit rawer,
extends more into trip hop and shades of techno also. still quite a jazz
presence. tho still recommended in all it is a bit less consistent than
bricolage, which is one of my fave d'n'b/jazz sounds of the last year. also
in this vein, which i haven't heard much mention of in the last few months
since i've been on this list, are the more recent funki porcini rex -
"love, pussycats + carwrecks", "carwreck" ep, and most burningly "lets see
what carmen can do" - oh if pharoah sanders got his hands on some serious
technology and gave it a good kickin it may sound like this.

- btw -
this clean up idm thread is getting a bit picky, also a bit new-age
fascist, with its "talking about stuff i don't agree with = waste of
bandwith" slant at times. jeez, john balance apologized, for posting a very
informative message about the reasons behind the scarceness of early coil
releases, and about half the other messages were unapologetic "lets clean
up idm" backslapping hoo ha. where's the reason in that?
