music means different things to different people.
for some it is something to discuss qualities such as imagery contained within;
some find joy in dissecting musical techniques, such as harmonies, time
signatures, and the like; still others ignore these and simply listen to the
music because it "sounds good"; there are those that use music to control their
emotions, to relax, energize, cheer up, etc.
the same is true for any form of art, be it theatre, painting, sculpture, etc.
or is music not considered art any more?

in regards to geoff's argument that "Most music, and particularly
that of Autechre, it is supposed to be an experience--you listen, feel,
sense--you're not supposed to sit and pick it apart and analyze, etc."
this is nonsense. the idea that there is a wrong way and a right way to enjoy
something so subjective as music is ridiculous.
