I have tried several renowned digital emulations of tape echos, =
including strymons, empress=E2=80=99 and Boss=E2=80=99 own. There=E2=80=99=
s no way in hell I=E2=80=99d trade my 301 for one of these. While they =
can emulate some of the individual characteristics they fail at the full =
block of preamp, tape, EQ and spring reverb combination. Not to speak =
about the physicality of the real thing, where you can actually interact =
with the tape producing slow downs or tremolo effects. To me there is no =
modern substitute for this.

Never had a disk delay, so I can=E2=80=99t really speak of what makes =
those special.=
