Yo. For those of you in Toronto and vicinity, if'n you ain't got any plans tonight, here's something you may want to check out: CLINTON'S REOPENING PARTY Clinton's, 693 Bloor St. W., Toronto $5 with flyer, $8 without doors at 8 PM - 19+ live in The Renaissance Room: RHEA'S OBSESSION and LAYA (with members of the TORONTO TABLA ENSEMBLE) DJs in The Vault: GREG CLOW (feedback monitor) and GORD CHAUHAN (The Cup o' Butter Show) spinning dubby ambient grooves. Finger foods and refreshments will be served throughout the evening. As BoC sez, "Yeeeeehhhhhh, that's right", I'll be spinning in the downstairs bar/lounge along with another DJ from CIUT. It'll be more on the downtempo/trip-hop/chill tip - Cup of Tea, Pork, Ninja kinda things - although I'll also drop a bit of the new Ae, some Boards, Solvent, etc. No turntables, though, so I won't have any Schematic/MaS/CI with me. Sorry. If you have any requests, e-mail them to me today and I'll see what I can do. :) Gord is a cool guy and will be spinning similar stuff, but with more of a soul/jazz edge. And the bands that will be playing upstairs are really good as well. Rhea's Obsession are pretty much my favourite "real" band in Toronto - they're like Dead Can Dance with balls - world rhythms, swooshy electronics, lots of percussion, beautiful vocals, and noisy guitar. And it works! As for Laya, I've never seen them, but the band that they're an offshoot from (Toronto Tabla Ensemble) are brilliant, so I'm sure it'll be cool. Discount flyers should still be around in a bunch of places along Queen Street, so snag one before you come to save some bucks. Greg
