well, don't count me in on that assumption! I was ravin the other day here
bout the Larry Heard 'Dance 2000 part 2' album that I just can't stop
playing, the lushest deep, deep house with some well hardcore aciiiiid
tracks too.

 but those

I find it hard to believe that people could appreciate IDM stuff without
appreciating its roots, surely if you're into one kind of music that has
evolved from these sources, it would make you insatiably hungry to hear it
all?

Maybe if you tell em all that the Rephlex lads are well into their house
they might get interested, learn some respect?

In the little book that came with TRans Europe Express, there was a big
Rephlex article, with interviews on Aphex, Cylob, Mike Paradinas, the whole
Rephlex crew and they mentioned their top 10 records at the time:-

1. DJ Pierre Box Energy (Trax Records)
2. State 808 with GErald Flow Coma (Creed Records)
3. HOuse addicts Come Together (FFrr)
4. Jack Frost 'Acid Rout' (Trax Records)
5. Farley 'Jackmaster Funk "the acid LIfe' (House REcords)
6. Mr Fingers, The Juice' (Trax REcords)
7. MDIII/Tyree 'Face the Nation' (Underground)
8. Bam Bam 'Where's your child' (Westbrook)
9. Sleazy D 'I've lost control' (Trax)
10. LIddel Townsell "The Groove' (Trax)

and Aphex is well into the Jedi Knights too, cos despite his big Humph
going on with Tom MIddleton, he was there, at the Blue NOte, ages ago, when
the Jedi Knights were playing ... the Blue Note was absolutely rammed that
night, and I'd climbed up onto this big amp for a chill and a chuff, and
felt this person climb up and sit squashed up besides me, and twas Aphex,
gettin well into it!

>a friend of mine defines idm as "techno with all the house taken out of
>it" anyone agree?

hmmm, I know what you mean but don't reeeally agree with it, but sometimes
it feels that way on some tracks which sound quite clinically cold to me
... its like the whole "Intelligent Dance" thing, I used to find it really
offensive when I'd be going down Speed and some of my friends, hardcore
junglers, would be going " she likes her jungle "intelligent", I hated that
term, 'intelligent' drum'n'bass as the term seemed to scornfully deride all
the other stuff which I was into as well.
