> It often seems to me that, since CDs run at 41kHz and most PCs run in the > MHz range, there should be more than enough processing power in the average > PC to do music. you're mistaking 'doing' & 'playing'. any half-decent computer can play a cd (provided you have a sound card), but a 286, even though it's in the mhz range, will have a hell of a time _rendering_ your song into a wave file, which takes a lot more computational power than just playing it. that said, any pentium-based computer can run most current software to professional results, so i'm really just picking here. -- david
