The new plug-in standard 2.0 for Cubase VST is going to allow plugins to
receive MIDi onformation. Be prepared for an explosion of softsynths,
samplers, and effects to hopefully be coupled by manufacturers producing
huge midi controller boards with as many knobs sliders and buttons as
possible. My setup right now is a pentiumII-400Mhz running win98 with
two monitors (soon to be three) a MIDI bitstream controller (40knobs, 8
buttons, etc.) used to control ReBirth through Cubase VST, Generator,
VAZ modular, and a few external modules. Software will never eliminate
dedicated equipment purely for the reason that we like the hands on
interaction of devices. It will be very important to have excellent
controllers for the future.
