since quite frequently new subscribers turn up asking for recommendations for good music, my answer -- rather than flooding the list with grocery list after grocery list of people's faves -- is to suggest some of the great online magazines out there. i learned almost everything i know about electronic music from scouring the web (well, that and listening to records, of course). there are a handful of decent print mags out there -- i'm a long time fan of the Wire, and Sleaze Nation (UK) has a great music section -- but both can be hard to find. and as for the more mainstream music rags, when they touch upon electronic music -- or worse, dedicate themselves to it -- coverage tends to be pretty shoddily predictable. (cf Sweater, a fucking atrocity if i've ever seen one.) the thrill of electronic music, in my opinion, is finding what lies beyond the astralwerks titles. so: to start off, a couple of idears: Urban Sounds: www.urbansounds.com (caveat: i write for it) Force Field: Cognition Audioworks: www.globalserve.net/~cognition Forcefield: www.sonik.demon.nl/forcefield/forcefield.html De.bug: www.de-bug.com (if you read german) a great music guide (with several list members representin'): All Music Guide: www.allmusic.com all of these sites will have more great links than i can begin to think of. hope this helps. phil
