Who are N Tone? And what relationship do they have with the Ninja's? <<< ninja tune and n-tone are the same org. whereas ninja tune is based on dj/acid jazz/trip hop roots, n-tone was aimed more at the ambient/electronic end of the spectrum. a good place to start would be a us 2cd comp on instinct called "earthrise.ntone.1" which was pretty easily available and cheap at the time in '95. there are tracks from journeyman, coldcut and hex (which is coldcut, i believe?), among others. I don't know if there was a similar uk release? instinct released a couple of ninja comps in the us that were different to uk releases. "earthrise.ninja.2", and "if ya cant stand da beatz", usually same artists but different tracks. there's also the ninja tune web-site that has a discography, w/ tracklisting and sound samples in some cases, of both ninja tune, n-tone, and the 3 releases on big dada, "..experimental hip-hop..." the 1st 2 produced by luke vibert. the site nice to look at and very informative, tho' has recently been succumbing to update inertia on the news, and missing a few recent releases. http://www.obsolete.com/pipe/ninja/ -martin
