"pretty sound" (ben017) www.benbecula.com some speaking the year got off to a shaky start with problems at the pressing plant for the release of "music volume two" which was not released until spring 2002. however its release was much anticipated and instantly sold out, bringing a flood of good reviews: not a weak track on it ... carefully sculpted, enticing electronica" dj mag "hurraahhhh!!! a new benbecula!!" hausmusik "excellent" rough trade "killer" de-bug "a plethora of electronic talent" jockey slut "sweet melodic music to relax to" smallfish "this is developed electronic music in its most crushing form" chunky records "romantic electronica from scotland. believe us." kompakt "altogether rather deliciously wonderful" pelican neck "in depth, detailed electronica" hedonizm "excellent sound" jellybean not bad, reviews for the latest ep by christ entitled "pylonesque" have not yet been collated but keep your eye on the website for full news. exposure has also been increased vastly by one or two airings on the bbc john peel show, cheers john! the christ ep has already gone for repress due to demand and we hope that our first cd release of the said ep will also do well. still on christ, he is due to play at the mount fuji festival in japan at the start of august, details are on the website. this is to promote the ep and forthcoming album and should be a very important event for benbecula in the far east. buses leave st andrew square bus depot on the 6th of july so book early. at the request of the far east market, the first two volumes of the "music" vinyl series have been subjected to the digipack cd format, which has turned out just beautiful, check out the artwork below. with fourteen wonderful tracks this will prove amazing value for the virgin benbecula listeners. christ follows up the ep with his debut full length album entitled "metamorphic reproduction miracle", which is already sounding superb. release date is set for late summer/early autumn, once again keep your eye on the website for details. in june of this year, benbecula shared a stand with spark and expanding records at the sonar festival in barcelona. great fun but very tiring, hopefully we will have a benbecula artists showcase next year, watch this space. however, represented on the fringes this year was kasbah who djed at the gusto club on the friday, and marcia blaine school for girls who played live at the nitsa on the sunday. thank god for scotland! finally, phase 6 is a great FAN of john peel and he met him!! hooray!!!
