I haven't had the > opportunity to catch his tour, but after listening to lex live from the > bent-crayon site, it seems his set is a bit too complex to be live (in any > sense of the word). i don't know about lexaunculpt, but i think it's fairly easy to produce a complex live set using a laptop without it being totally preset. obviously, parts will be preprogrammed, but many sequencing programs will allow you to change certain (if not all) parameters during playback. so it really boils down to what software he uses. that said, i don't think that the musician playing tetris, or simply waiting there while the entire track plays would be such an evil thing to do -- that's what most djs do, after all. it may be a bit disappointing if you find out that the live set was exactly the same as your cds though -- but that's entirely in the artist's hands for all i'm concerned. besides, since we're just out of a prog thread, a common complaint about bands like genesis & their ilk was that their live shows were note-for-note the exact same thing as their albums. yet, some found that an extraordinary thing (what skill!!!). but there's no skill aspect in pushing a 'start' button on a software sequencer. then again, i tend to think that electronic/idm acts are more about listening to the music rather than looking at the guy dwindling with his mouse. -- david
