so like recently I've really noticing a retro movement in electronic music. For instance i've been noticing a resurgence in booty house here on the east coast. You know that real ghetto sounding stuff... "Work that pussy. Work work that pussy....". You get the drift. Myself, I'm really getting back into rap. Not anything new, but the mid-school stuff from like 87 --> 90. Basically , Ultramagentic MC's, NWA, and Audio Two. UMC's _Critical Beatdown_ is one of the best out there. I mean I guess it kind of reminds of electro, but like electro is a bit retro. And who doesn't love electro. And like I was coming back from this party and this friend pulls out a tape by local DJ reade truthe, and he's like it's this tape put together with old Trance from 4 years back. And he puts it on, and it's really fresh. It sounds so different. But it's really like the first time I remember retro being like a force in electronic movement. Is this cause like predominance of jungle and breakbeats in what's the main driving force these days. Cause like jungle sucks. I'm really bored with it. I mean granted squarepusher and richard have been doing some relatively interesting stuff. But the predominance of jungle in mainstream electronica is just not good. Like I have more respect for gabber. Is it just that there is such a rich history of music that it deserves a second listen?? Am I just thinking aloud where I shouldn't be?? But yeah like I've really found that old genres are becoming an influence in what people are playing these days. freshie Paranoia: The choice of a Tech Generation http://silly.com/~tang
