I've never found it difficult to crush someone's likes, especially when the crushee likes something that's a total piece of shit. As an example (and this sort of thing has happened more than once), I knew this guy that bought every shit Marvel comic printed. He was even buying Godzilla (this was the mid 80's, and if you've ever seen any of those Godzilla comics, you know how bad they really are). I pointed out how bad the line art was, how truly bad the story was, and told him that by buying such shit he was encouraging more shit. Years later I ran into him again - he said he had almost quit buying Marvel and was buying mostly independents (this was the pre-Ninja Turtles golden age of independent comics). Then he thanked me profusely for steering him in that direction. My theory is, some people like stuff out of habit, or laziness, or because everybody else likes it. They need to be shaken up. Some stuff is obviously shit, created solely to appeal to the lowest common denominator for profit. I don't care how many people like it, it's still shit. Call me an elitist, fine, I'm elitist, and it's STILL SHIT. What I've ultimately realized is, people who like mass-market shit tend to have VERY malleable likes & dislikes, which is why they tend to like mass-market shit, & why it's so easy to dissuade them from liking one thing, and persuade them to like another. As for crushing someone's dislikes, well, that's pointless. Che rock - rok (v.) - having a conventional and/or boring nature. ex: "Khakis rock". "That Rolling Stones show rocked". syn: suck.
