I picked up the domestic issue from a local shop today and thought I = would chime in with a brief review. This is pretty amazing stuff. To my = ears, it has NO techno/drum 'n' bass/IDM or anything remotely related. = It is a brazen attempt to replicate the 70s experimental jazz fusion = sound of Miles Davis and groups like Hancock's Mwandishi. Earlier = Jenkinson tracks like "E8 Boogie" hinted at something like this but the = use of live instrumentation produces a looser, twisted feel. Many of the = tracks are atmospheric jams that never seem to resolve themselves. Are = they just half-formed ideas? No. They work extremely well.=20 This records shows how well Jenkinson is at translating what is in his = head on to a recording. His insane drum programming sounds *exactly* = like his live drumming. I think some folks are going to be disappointed = but I think "Music is Rotted One Note" is ace. Hopefully some curious = kids will pick up some of those original jazz items after hearing this.=20
