This is definitely going quite far afield, but the Virgin Encyclopedia of Popular Music lists his birthplace as Truro, Cornwall. It sounds about right to me, even though Virgin and Colin Larkin have been rumored to print intentionally wrong information so as to more easily spot people who have stolen their facts. In an interview for DotMusic, Richard himself gave his birthplace as Limerick, Ireland; obviously, we all know his own penchant for mis-information, but does anyone have the real goods on his hometown? .John.
