those of you still contemplating whether or not to go see funkstörung when
they pass through your region should stop contemplating and save up your
gas money.

the show last night in cleveland was very strong.

alex blew minds and shattered preconceptions about the maximum amount of
sound possible to be ejected from a powerbook g3. through ralph's sound
system, it was amazing and would have been an excellent commercial for
jobs. just lex crouched on one knee keeping a whole room of chinstrokers
spellbound. think different indeed. some familiar seeds (kid606 remix,
etc.) but largely new stuff, including an unauthorized lex remix of NWA's
"fuck the police" and the infamous autechre post via mac voices set to
music.

michael and chris played a heavy set which was surprisingly beatdriven and
floor friendly. though unfortunately no-one in the cleveland crowd seemed
able to shake rump by this point the music certainly would have facilitated
it. the beats were a punishing, borderline industrial / EBN style barrage.
chris and michael played out the finals of the expert knob twiddlers world
cup, with deluca frantically loading patches on the nord and triggering the
alessis and virus, with fakesch working the board. any semblance to
previously released tracks was fleeting at best, but the groove they cut
was a sweaty pulsing ditch that was instantly familiar. i always wondered
how the funkstörung sound would get adapted in a live setting, and know i
understand. tres impressive.

all three were cool and congenial despite being stranded on the ohare
tarmack for 6 hours enroute to CLE.

LA, SF, baltimore and miami get ready. bring your shell toe dancing shoes.

peeeeeeece,
