Went to the Mpls Pan Sonic/Trans Am show tonight. Definitly worth my $8 and prob worth a whole $20. The opening DJ was alright, cool jungle, but nothing too impressive. Then Pan Sonic came on and blew my mind. Maybe it was my recent lack of sleep, but i felt a bit transported. I would close my eyes and listen and move. The visual was so awesome, a projection screen with a black box in the middle whose sides were realtime soundwaves of what they were playing. I think they need a "tour video" with just the white and black screen. Also, i found their music better live, because it was continuously mixed and it built, developed, shifted, rearranged, etc, while tracks like on "A" are more one-idea tracks. At times their music got real noisey (which I dug) and one asshole in the audience shouted "You suck." The music was mostly on the sound-experiment side of their music, although i thought i heard something that sounded like the osasto EP. They also had a cool way of finding the right pitch to get the entire venue shaking (i forget what this effect is scientifically called). Trans Am was pretty cool too, they reminded me of Mogwai and Sonic Youth as techno fans. They also found the proper pitch to shake the venue, but they used it less. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who likes Pan Sonic, and it will probably be cheap, too. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / xxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.xxx Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/ Newly reworked Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings site http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "The only disease we need in our blood is love" TRICKY
