(idm) DJ rights to music

Strange posting this during the great "What isn't idm" dillemma...

I'm relatively new to the dj mixing process.

I've been taking notice of the DJ Kicks albums.
The dj's mix other existing songs of a variety of artists together
with a flow in mind. The works are often listed with their origin. The
"hooks" and lyrics remain from the source song. So, do the source
artists get paid for being used in a mix?

Second, why not just buy the source artist's work?

(maybe my answer is, "You do. If you like it.")

Thx!
