Actually I did not use cross mod or hard sync. Just ramp waveforms
(VCO2 at half level) with resonance and EG modulation at full, with
unison turned on.

The key is those SVF filters and full EG modulation - little known
secret is that the modulation depth isn't identical between voice
cards due to imperfections in the circuit. With greater modulation
depth, VCF Cutoff is going to vary between voices. But that
"imperfection" is the key to the sound. By pushing EG modulation to
max, you're exploiting the imperfection because as the EG is decaying,
the VCF cutoff of all those voices firing in unison go from very
different to closer. That's how that "grind" is created - badly
matched cutoffs sweeping, then as it decays to sustain level the
cutoffs are now closer.

Then the patch is just fine tuning sustain level and VCF cutoff until
it is "just right". No doubt that some distortion in the 3080s is
also adding some dirt to the sound.

I've been chasing "that sound" for years. It wasn't until I got the
OB-X that I realized how the "imperfections" were a big contributor.
Every other synth was "too perfect". I used to use VCO2 FMing VCF
cutoff on the Memorymoog but never got it right. Only the OBX or a
SEM polysynth (albeit a bit more work) can pull this off.

That sound was a factory preset for the pinstripe version of the OBSX,
but never the OBX. But the OBSX preset doesn't work because the VCF
is swept on release NOT decay.
