no. i think it's a fair assumption that most of these records weren't sold
in stores and those that were never left scotland. acid memories is ten
years old and probably limited to like a dozen hand made copies.

On the "Hooper Bay" 12"...
Until 1999 NOBODY mentioned this existed, it didn't appear in any official
discographies, etc. Suddenly it appears, tracklisting, limited to 200 copies,
etc. Somebody would've known about a copy. IDM may be a pretentious worldwide
cabal, but it is a cabal nonetheless.

Re: Q-Chastic

This is a fake. No way a record goes hidden from everybody for seven years.
PLUS there is no real way to tell if they don't just press them now and claim
they came out seven years ago. Not hard.

These are the same people who the original poster references.

Hey, somebody sell me a copy of Twoism, I'm Scottish.
But...
Creating a phantom record is easy.
Boards of Canada: Skylark
01. Song of the Hills (4.56)
02. Algorhythm (7.02)
03. Zanzibar (5.24)
04. Rorschach (9.11)
Limited to five 12"s.

What would he gain from this? Hey, this whole scene is scenester music made
by isolated individuals who in general seem intentionally obtuse and obscure.
It might be gloating as some suggested or just strange humor.

Another note on these being potentially fake releases is the Cosmic Crofter's
harsh denial of tape requests due to lack of time. I'm a full time student
and a full time employee (I don't have a day with nothing to do) and I can
make plenty of tapes. Time is no excuse for people who have time to make
websites and post to mailing lists. Not caring is a much better and more
realistic one.

(however, an interesting aside: I was playing some IDM the other day and a
friend's roommate [opera major, future Julliard grad student] commented [in
very technical terminology that I probably can't replicate] favorably on
Autechre but found our beloved Boards so droning and simplistic that he was
shouting to turn it off)

Regardless, it's irrelevant, but if I had to gamble I'd say the pre-Twoism
12" is a fake.
It was Rollins who blasted people for believing everything they read, and for
once, he might actually be right.
