Over the weekend I got a chance to hear two new Pole remixes. The first was on Laub's Institutional remix cd on Yo Kitty. I dont remember the exact name of the track he remixed but I do remember it was an amazing mix sounding unlike anything Pole has previously released. Instead of his sultry spacious dub stylings, Pole opted for a very dark glitchy experimental style that one would associate more with Touch, Ash International, Mego, K-raa-k, Miau-Miau, etc. Unfortunately none of the other remixes on Laub's Institutional remix cd interested me so i passed on the release but if this mix is a sign of things to come from Pole then I'm very excited to hear what his next release will be like. The other new Pole remix is from a Frilkyiwa remix 12" called Lobi Traore on the Cobalt label. I'm not familiar with the original artist so i cannot differentiate what sounds are from the original track vs the remix but it sounds like Pole mixed his signiture dub sound at a low level under a much louder mix of middle-eastern-sounding melodies and samples. The overall effect gives this mix more of a world music flavor not unlike tracks by Loop Guru, The Orb, or even some Muslimgauze. I was not as impressed with this mix as I was with Pole's Laub remix. The other remix on this 12" was by Chari Chari and was mix of light jazzy techno/breaks over tribal chants. -->-Lance--- xxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xxx p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
