IDM, and AMBIENT heads should take note, unless of course you already know about this one. Fresh from the DEI -- press sheets: Pietro. >> BENGE=20 The Very Best Of...=20 SR167 (cd)=20 Benge started recording music in 1995 after leaving=20 art college. He was a painter of large minimal abstract=20 canvasses, but defected to music because he found=20 it wasn't as messy. Since the age of 10 he had been=20 a drummer in various experimental bands, but eventually=20 decided to go it alone because he liked the idea of being=20 in control of every sound and every idea; thus he started=20 his own label and started releasing albums. Musical=20 Philosophy: using old and new technology to produce=20 unique and beautiful music without relying on other people=20 at any stage of the creative process. File under: Relevant Ambient Revivalist After 7 albums of unique electronica released on his own=20 label and recorded in his electronic studio based in the=20 heart of London, England, Benge shares now with Sub=20 Rosa his vision through favorite tracks from his five first=20 records, on an album outrageously called "The Very Best=20 Of=85" and packaged in the grand tradition of seminal listening=20 music albums. In an attempt to reconcile the sound of=20 machines dreaming of electric shapes floating on magnetic=20 clouds with an updated musical expression of the <<vintage>>'s=20 warmth, the British sandman invites you to the land of=20 electronic meditation. Regarding his direct and 'reduced=20 to the essential' style, Benge is the missing link between=20 the 70's melodic 'electronica' and the present 'intelligent'=20 electro wizards. Nevermind his 'you know who' look alike=20 on the sleeve, you won't find any traces or evidence of =20 'supermarket' music, or maybe an illustration of what it=20 will be like in the year 3000=85 Why not dim the lights, put on "the Very Best of=85 " and=20 join Benge for a glass of fine wine! _____________________________________ Pietro Da Sacco, m b m @ n e t c o r e . c a ::: Grooves Magazine ::: ::: Experimental Electronica in Words ::: http://www.rain.org/~audio/grooves/ ::: Insound.com Zinestand ::: http://www.insound.com/zinestand/grooves/
