First of all shout out to Phillipa at Ninja Tune for settin' things straight. I like to listen before I buy or listen and not buy (I live with 2 djs and take full advantage of their idm collections) I don't spend a lot of time seeking out the latest idm release. I do however spend a lot of time seeking out the unknown artist quietly making idm music in the privacy of his/her bedroom studio. For me, the thrill comes in discovering an artist not yet discovered by anyone and helping them get their music out there. I prefer to find something new instead of play the collectors game. I think collecting's cool, but I can never keep up with it. A new record or mix tape keeps me happy for several weeks... The record that has most recently struck my fancy is Program Yourself by Wamdue Project. I imagine this could spark some debate as to whether or not it should be considered idm. I say yes. In the past Wamdue has focused mainly on house and many of the cuts on this album still have 4/4 house beats, but even those cuts have a rich, layered production style that is absent in many house tracks. The result being an album of fully composed songs instead of simply dj mixing tracks. Chris Brann experiments with intelligent d&b beats on some of the tracks as well, but it is the smooth production style and soulful vocals that grab me. peace Carter Clock Wise Records ............................................................................ ......... clock wise records 1611 marlbrook drive NE atlanta GA 30307 404.371.3401 voice 404.377.5403 fax xxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xxx http://www.clockwise-records.com
