I think it=E2=80=99s better to call this a =E2=80=9Cpoor value=E2=80=9D = rather than =E2=80=9Coverpriced,=E2=80=9D but I=E2=80=99m just being = picky over terminology. =E2=80=9COverpriced=E2=80=9D implies that we should pay human beings no = more than the robots on an assembly line. Logan and others are perfectly = justified in asking $1,000 total for the kit parts plus their manual = labor. It=E2=80=99s completely unfair to expect someone to build a = single synthesizer for the same low price that Behringer can = mass-produce other clones. Of course, just because $1,000 might be a = fair price to ask doesn=E2=80=99t necessarily mean that anyone is going = to find it a good value. I object to these terms (like overpriced) because they diminish the = amount of labor that someone puts into these builds. It just sounds like = too much is expected of builders and repair shops, as if we are entitled = to their labor just because mass-produced alternatives are so cheap. My = point is that you=E2=80=99re comparing apples and oranges (or maybe = fresh-squeezed o.j. versus artificial apple flavor). Personally, I=E2=80=99ve been building custom designed circuits every = once in a while (like a Hammond MIDI drawbar controller) just because I = can dial in the exact features that I want. Unfortunately, building only = one, two, or three units costs hundreds more than buying an existing = product, often with a total price tag as high as $1,000 (even without = paying for my own labor) by the time the project is finished and = working. But it wouldn=E2=80=99t be fair to say that the components are = =E2=80=9Coverpriced=E2=80=9D just because I couldn=E2=80=99t get a bulk = discount by buying 10,000 to a million for mass production. Anyway, please be considerate of the humans who are willing to put hours = of their time into the mess of PCB and parts involved. If it looks like = a bad value proposition to you, then feel free to say so, but please = don=E2=80=99t imply that somebody is trying to rip off everyone (unless = you=E2=80=99re willing to build these kits to a high quality standard = for $10).
