>>i'm going to be seeing tortoise this week in, but oval isn't opening, >>this band isotope 217 is.....anybody got any info on this band? >Jazz funkfusion with a lot of people from Tortoise. =20 >nothing that hasn't been done before. I saw Isotope 217 open for Tortoise this weekend and if you're going to = see Tortoise I would recommend arriving in time to catch Isotope 217. They = varied from calming, harmonized, rainy-day slow jazz moments from a = trumpet and trombone, to banging on hubcaps and scraping muffin tins = together, to live distorto-drum machine jamouts (in the same song). I = hadn't seen it done before. They gave an enthusiastic performance. The = trumpet player was a very proficient and alternated his horn playing with = operating a sampler.=20 Definitely see Tortoise; highly recommended. Someone mentioned catching Lee Perry/Mad Professor to catch some dubness. = I saw that show a couple weeks back and was disappointed. Lee Perry played = with a live three piece dancehall type backing band, with Mad Professor = tossing in the occasional uninspired sampled thundercloud noise and = echoes. It reminded me of Shinehead. Buy the Mad Professor vs Massive = Attack cd instead.
