My assumption is that it is not deliberate. Instead, it=E2=80=99s = possibly a side effect of modern op-amps having greater bandwidth, = higher slew rate, and various other =E2=80=9Cimprovements=E2=80=9D that = simply weren=E2=80=99t possible decades ago. My hypothesis could possibly be tested by anyone building their own DIY = oscillators, so long as there are sockets for the op-amps. It might be = necessary to solder adaptor boards for comparing the modern = surface-mount op-amps. There are literally tens of thousands of op-amps = to choose from, and modern synths may simply be using the cheapest ones = without spending loads of time auditioning the different variations. = There=E2=80=99s certainly a lot of pressure to make modern synths cheap, = so there might not be much budget to figure which of the more-expensive = chips might sound =E2=80=9Cbetter=E2=80=9D to some customers. Then again, a lot of the currently-popular op-amps are still the same = part numbers as they were decades ago, so perhaps they sound =E2=80=9Cthe = same.=E2=80=9D It=E2=80=99s hard to know for sure, though, because even = the identical part number can be quietly =E2=80=9Cimproved=E2=80=9D = without a lot of fanfare.
