Actually, it was in Worcester...

Either way, the second anniversary gathering was an undeniable success. It
sold out around 1AM to the extent of calling upon 'officials' to count each
exiting head in order to let each new one in (fire codes, etc...). It was
packed. Musically, it was by the far the most challenging event to date.
The apex was around midnight or so, right after Brynmore's set, the
conact-miked popcorn machines started to go off, filling the films room
with a very loud 60 cycle hum & 3D popping sounds from each of the four
corners (thanks to Scott Vercoe for the spatialization joystick system...).
Sonically amazing. That led directly into the Blitter/Hrvatski set (which
was exceedingly caustic...). We did 'soundtrack accompaniment' to Harry
Smith's "Heaven & Earth Magic". Blitter was doing live DSP of the
soundtrack audio signal [which consists mostly of disjointed sounds to
begin with] through the laptop C64, MPC, and various FX boxes, while I spun
random patched together sounds over the main speakers. Jake & Jace (DJ's C
& /rupture) were battling it out record for record (as far as I could tell)
in the other room, which consisted mostly VERY harsh drum n' bass, abstract
beats/breaks, and soundbytes/incoherent audio fragments. Dense.

I highly suggest attending the next event, a DJ-battle round table taking
place at the Cambridge Cultural Arts Center on December 16 (I'll post with
more info where available). I know at least one Soundlab person is coming
up from NYC for it; so perhaps those with questions regarding the
differences/intricacies of their respective performance procedures should
be in attendance. And like all Toneburst events, there is no age limit.

PS- for the IDM listee I met at the show (name?) who assured me it would be
a good idea to post "what the hell I was playing" :

popcorn music backing (panning in quad):
various artists - no.9 (fat cat)

harry smith start:
jean tinguely - bascule vii (manhood)
resilient - 1.2 (chain reaction)
terry fox - berlino (het apollohuis)
william basinski - on a frontier of wires (raster)
noto - 06:33 (raster)
harry bertoia - phosphorescence (sonambient)
pierre henry - leviatation/penetration (phillips)
ernst krenek - spiritus intelligentiae sanctus (deutsche gramophon)
iannis xenakis - bohor (nonesuch)
masonna - psychetronics erectile b (japan overseas)
edgar varese - poeme electronique (columbia)
bernard heidisieck - poeme partition "x" (alga marghen)
airlock - ultra blue a2 (drive in)
logos/gotfried-willem raes- concerto voor pneumafon en orgel (igloo)
this heat - repeat (these)

at this point (and seemingly at every toneburst event I've played at), the
power went out. Amidst the shrieks of fuzzy-star-shirt-small-backpacked
rave girls on their trips' descent, many cries of 'play some fucking beats'
were heard, so as the power came back on:

base force one - welcome to violence (praxis)
dj scud/christopehr fringelli - bodysnatcher (ambush)
rehberg & bauer - 2nd (korg plastics)
x@x - a1 (a-musik)
mimic & the model - a2 (?)

wabi sabi - b2 (a-musik)
wu tang clan - reunited mix by funkstorung (rca)
async sense - async sense (imbalance)
squarepusher - the body builder dressing gown mix (warp)
squarepusher - male pill 5 (spymania)
various locks - rrr 500 (rrr)
various locks - rrr 500 (rrr)
jackal & hide - in bed with hanin (ambush)
something called 'audio obstacle course'
-handed to me by an audience member (thanks!)
mwarf - pillar brockbeat (ambush)
fierce & nico - input b (no-u-turn) played @ 33 minus 8. entire side.
end.

Thanks to all IDM listees who made it, I know I talked to a few of you
there (keep in touch). And keep your eyes peeled. -Våt.
