>IDM is all about crappy melodies. look at aphex twin - arguably the >king >of crappy melodies, he is nonetheless usually able to make their >crappiness somehow appealing. the whole genre is afflicted with >people >who think they can program some cool midi patterns and then throw lame >keyboard noodle loops on top of it. oh my god, i can't believe you said that! though i do remember mylsef saying many years back that RDJ had no talent, i am aware now that i was somehow mislead by industrial music. "I Care..." has some of the greatest melodies i've ever heard. "RDJ Album" has some funk-ass melodies too. though i don't know what you might be looking for in a melody, listen carefully and i'm sure you'll find it in RDJs tunes. whistlability is a majory plus when it come to melodies, and that's why bjork and stereolab also rule the melody-scene. i, unfortunely, can't write melodies worth shit so i like to rely on fractal music generation on occasion. or stick to monotonous shtuff. tomas np: Roots Manuva - Brand New Second Hand
