Hi all, > I remember some kind > of hash-browned potatoes with four or five other fried vegetables in there > as well, all very greasy and generally disgusting Ha, no one really eats that crap here! You've been suckered tourist style. :-) Although I have to agree that in general food does suck here and greasy spoon style cafes with fixed down tables and faded old 60s decor are all too common. But on to the IDM-ish content. I've gotta say that Sam was spot on his comments about Mos Def, Talib Qweli and Rawkus records a while back, which no-one replied to but do deserve a mention here on IDM (Company Flow are especially revelant I think). Things are looking good for all those lot and hip-hop generally at the moment, and I must say that it's certainly just as exciting (if not more so) as most of the other scenes and musics at the moment (and Co Flow working with Vadim - wooo wooooooooooooo! Can't wait!). Ms IDM was indeed completely sexist, but I've gotta say that is was entertaining while it lasted, especially that fool with the doublespeak. Peace 2 U, you funki bruvva! But there are important gender issues within this music and the thread definately has some merit. I agree with Irene that purely from a purely musical and list-related perspective it doesn't matter what gender you are, but in order to encourage and reinforce this view women artists and listeners of this music need to stand up and be counted. This scene is already too male dominated, so more respect to Leila, Bjork, Riz Maslen, Bahamadia, Rah Digga, etc for doing it their way and still keeping it female. IMO all this is more interesting than some review of the lastest IDM treat. Opinions are just great, but in general descriptions just don't really do justice to music. Imagine using music to describe words and were getting close to the level of futility. IMO of course. Plus one more Kraftwerk live review and I think I'll scream! Anyway, back to lurk mode...
