(idm) Photek: Form & Function

Picked this up yesterday at Virgin. I felt guilty giving money to Richard
Branson but it was on sale and I got a free Photek t-shirt out of the deal.
Hell, Branson would've got my money eventually anyway since it's on
Astralwerks/Science. Hurrah, vertical integration!

I had been concerned that this would be half Photek originals and half
remixes by other people I don't care about but the whole thing is 79:32
long and the outside remixes are only 27:03 of that, leaving a good fifty
minutes of Rupert on his own, which to me is enough to call it a full
Photek album with bonus remixes.

As for the music, it's PHOTEK. Pure science, Chinese arithmetic, the Dean
Malenko of drum & bass. If you've already got the original 12"s, there are
two all-new tracks, "Knitevision" (sounds like Source Direct, which I
suppose is a bit like saying an Autechre record sounds like Funkstorung)
and "Santiago" (a funky midtempo cut with horns and crybaby guitar) and new
Photek remixes of "The Seven Samurai" and "Resolution."

Of course you want this.
