just a few thoughts from a couple initial listens...

the most obvious, first-degree comparison i could make is that it looks
& sounds like chiastic slide. same design style (it's a wonder if tdr
is taking itself seriously or just revelling in self-pastiche), same low
melodic content, same obtuse drums & other scraping noises, which,
although very pretty, get a bit tedious to listen to, because everybody
is essentially doing the same thing throughout the disc. sure, they do
it fairly well, but at the expense of a healthy dose of variety.

someone had pointed the artificial intelligence compilations as a
reference point. well, taking ai2 as an example, i would say that both
compilations indeed have the same problem: _they have the same freaking
style throughout_. you could fool someone into thinking both are
single artist releases, except not as cohesive.

that said, this mostly negative review might overshadow the fact that
most of the tracks on ischemic folks are so skillfully crafted that it
would be unjust to simply dismiss it as a mere compendium of
ae-by-numbers audio doodles. give it a listen, see if you like. but
don't expect a revolutionary disc -- which was the slightly misleading
impression i was getting from early reviews on this list.
