A friend was bored at work today and wrote to tell me about a dream she had. I thought it was quite interesting/funny, and even though it's not necessarily directly on topic, I'm sure some of you might get a kick out of it: > i am at work now, waiting for my gel to polymerize, so i thought i would write you and tell you about the weirdo dream i had last night > anyway, the part that concerns you is when you and me and carrie were all at this club that reminded me of under the couch. the guy performing was doing some "minimalist techno" and was in front of a computer screen pushing the mouse around, etc. but the part i really wanted to tell you about was the other instrument he had sitting next to his computer. it was about the size of a beach ball (larger than a basketball), but it was levitating over a platform, kind of like those large marble spheres that roll around in the water (if you've ever seen those). but there wasn't any water holding it up, it was just floating there. he would move his hand over the ball, and it would start rolling and making different sounds. as it started rolling faster, the beat sped up, and when he jerked his hand back the other way, it was kind of like a scratch. but then, as the music got really intense, i realized that the ball wasn't actually hard and solid. it was soft and squishy,! > kind of like a nerf ball. he started squeezing it in different places, producing some kind of rhythmic distortion. > this of course was a small piece of a long dream that involved me becoming the saviour of my high school against an attack by witches and warlocks, having forks shoved into my eyes, and watching some one rape a pig. but i thought you would want to hear about the minimalist techno. > bill wright xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.xxx <http://hubcap.clemson.edu/~wwright>
