I tend to think there is an illusion of technical complexity in a lot of IDM that tends to fool non-geeks. I know a number of highly skilled people who can replicate the sounds and style w/o much effort. That doesn't mean it would have the same feel but they can certainly replicate the sounds. Also, I would be kind of interested in knowing what is the baseline for "skilled" and "complex" music in IDM. >> Though I cannot speak for everyone or even from experience because I >> don't know anything about producing music, I have heard the reason >> from musicians that the avant-garde / noise style is very easy to >> produce; it doesn't take much effort or skill. > > i have a feeling that that is part of the concept, but i could be wrong. > some people enjoy putting a lot of time and effort into their work, and some > don't. > >
