keeping the ol' idm faq updated is a thankless task, but someone has to do it. v1.2 includes the latest hot hints on those burning threads - 'girls and boys, different or what?', 'what can humans really hear?' and 'autechre? gods or just boring?' sorry to repeat the whole thing, but as they say, those that do not remember the past (or check the archives) are condemned to repeat it. Q1. what is idm? - or - is <insert artist here> considered idm? A1. please don't, noooooo ....... Q2. which is better vinyl or cd? A2. please don't, noooooo ....... Q3. are ltd editions good or evil? A3. please don't, noooooo ....... Q4. is there an idm faq? A4. this is the unofficial idm faq v1.2. Q5. i'd like to ask a question involving sampling rates and/or frequencies, basically anything involving a discussion of good ol' Hz. preferably in the questionably audible range. A5. please don't, noooooo ....... Q6. can we all list the ways that anal trainspotter males think girls are different. i mean they only like melodic music w/ vocals. funny that isn't it? A6. please don't, noooooo ....... it should be said that this thread, when it appears every other month, usually starts out along the lines of "why are there more boys/less girls at idm gigs / on the idm list / performing in idm /...?" the amount of crass generalisation that inveriably gets thrown around in response, makes me wonder why any females at all would want to be associated w/ such a bunch of clueless gits. i guess it must have something to do w/ their exquisite taste in music. Q7. this list is about autechre, and everyone surely believes that they are gods. anyone not swooning over their every release must have something wrong w/ them - not really listening / short attention span / deaf / head up arse, .... and if idm isn't about autechre then it should be. note: autechre has formally replaced rdj as the subject that can be mentioned at any time, in any context, and everyone is expected to nod wisely and agree that they are truly wonderful. rdj who used to fulfill this role before you could get his early rare releases easily on cd, is now a minor pop star on mtv who even girls may like. A7. please don't, noooooo ....... Q8. what's up w/ posting playlists? A8. playlists can be very useful. collect several weeks worth, hook up to a printer, and wallpaper your room w/ them. now at a glance you will be able to see lists of artists, track titles and labels wherever you look. alternatively you can read them if you find them interesting or delete them if you dont (Del, its not just short for Derek anymore). Q9. why don't you use capitols. whats w/ this funny typing. A9. bOg OfF aND MiND yOUr owN BUsINEss!
