well, i went to the DHR tour last night in DC @ the 9:30 club and i thought
i'd share some thoughts. it was ec8or, shizou, and ATR..

ec8or - uhm. boring as HELL. how many times can you milk a break? these
guys didn't make interesting music nor did they have much energy. basically
one dorky looking guy yelling and some girl trying to muster some
enthusiasm, but failing. not very interesting. they even smashed some piece
of gear. punk fucking rock.

shizou - what the hell? i was torn between really liking their music and
being really annoyed by their on-stage antics. it was a girl and a guy. the
guy had some energy, fiddling with a sampler and then running around.
however, the girl was acting like some exotic dancer. she's lift up her
dress and show her ass and thighs and the like. i later found out that her
lyrics were things like "i want to give you a blow job! noW!" and "cunts
cunts cunts." lords of acid MIGHT be able to get away with this sort of
thing, but not shizou. plus, she didn't exactly have the body to be
flaunting it like she was. the music was pretty nice, though .. the usual
DHR crunchy, fast breaks but a bit more varied. i might be tempted to check
them out further if they'd kick that girl out.

atari teenage riot - fucking go! what these kids lacked in musicianship
they certainly made up for in energy. while empire may not be the best of
"sonic artists" or whatever the pretenious term of the day on the list is,
he certainly can rile up a crowd. they came out and he screamed "We are
Atari Teenage Riot and we're from Berlin!" and commenced into about an hour
of speed-break-laden punk rock. it was great. so much energy and lots of
over-privelaged white suburbanites screaming "fuck capitalism!" fun, fun,
fun! i never thought i'd be in a mosh pit to the amen break. but hey, it's
the 90s. i even got to hand the girl from ATR a spiceworld pin and she
smiled back, so it's all good.

in between the bands they spun some pretty nice dumnbass. although the
place was mostly metal and alternative kids, so not too much dancing
outside of myself and a few others. i had a really good time and really
enjoyed ATR and even some of Shizou. it was only $8, so there wasn't too
much to lost.

burn, idm, burn!
