Pacman v. Colongib (Kracfive KFAT001)
Colongib: Upgrade to v2.0 (Kracfive KFAT002)

It amazing what you can do these days. With just a nice PC, a cd-r and
some cheap (pirated, if that's what you dig) software, you could have
your own lovely record label started up in no time. Hell, look at these
two CDs from IDM list member Chris Graves' new label... To the untrained
eye these could easily be no different than any other CD at the local
store, until you eye the back of the CD, it's CD-R green. How can that
be?? These are actually CD-R demos, brilliantly disguised in a beautiful
professional packaging. And the whole deal was created in the saftey of
Fast Tracker (you know, mod trackers, what they used to make the music
for old amiga games with... well they've come a long way). Oh yes, the
music. So, anyway, the first of these CDs is a colab between Chris
(Colongib) and Noah Pacman. Three tracks from each artist, three remixes
from each artists, a colaberation track and an intro by colongib. Anyone
familiar with earlier demos by either of these artists could basically
know what to expect. Colongib's very autechre influenced sound, except
with a dab of "drill n' bass" (with clanging metal replacing the
pneumatic 'drill' breaks...). And Pacman spins a slightly more advanced
twist on the early u-ziq gear. Ok, now that i got that micropigeon
holeing over with, let's just say there's a helluva lot more to it than
that. The whole remixing process allows the styles to interchange within
artist. However often Pacman falls to a point where his melodies end up
sounding so simplistic-video gamey (and not in the wafta-ish good kinda
way!) that you wonder if he just wasn't banging away on an ol casio.
None the less, the both of them are rythmic superstars (especially if you
know how constricting it is to work in the limits of those damn tracking
programs, belive me i do.) But wait-- that's just half the picture. I
also recieved Colongib's 'upgrade to v2.0', which is more sharp new skool
electro from Mr. graves. Featuring all hits from his old 'colongib 1'
demo tape: "Thumb Machine", "Imp Containment Unit", and so on. Plus
several sweet new joints. Static bursts and metallic beats over oh so
sweet melodies. I could go on for days about every intricate detail, but
i won't bore ya. So let's make it short and sweet: buy these discs, at
ten bucks a pop you will not regret.
