Well, okay... I just bought the damn thing. And here's a first listening quickie review: Not Bad. Kind of light, actually. A couple of songs have that relentless thump-thump-thump-thump kind of housey beat that I don't particularly care for, but Orbit's arrangements manage to keep things fairly interesting. Some of the quieter songs actually reminded me of Lida Husik ("Green Blue Fire" era, though not as hip-hoppy). Not nearly as good as Husik (at least in my opinion), still it's a pretty decent listen. I wouldn't call it "electronica" by any means, even considering the vagueness of just what the term means. It's about as "electronica" as the last U2 album, I suppose. In fact, listening to it now, it really has a similar overall sound to U2's "Pop". It's got the slow "Staring at the Sun" type ballads, the upbeat dance-club "Discotheque" numbers. Might as well have hired The Edge as producer, really. Probably won't stay in heavy rotation on my CD player for too long, but then I said the same thing about "Pop" and I still seem to be listening to that album regularly (Bono be damned!). _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
