Yep, it most certainly is. I've got a weird situation with my Various Artists CD, where there is a clear crack running a centimetre or so from the center of the disc, and every track plays fine. I was quite surprised, because I understood that the first mm or so of the CD (reading out from the middle) contained all the basic track info, that allowed the CD to be read at all.
