Jon Hassell. Definitely start with his collaboration with Brian Eno called Fourth World Vol. 1 Possible Musics. Then explore his catalog, fantastic artist. The new one is fine too, but kind of like 'Hassell unplugged'. Note that his work is not dark in the sense of negative or menacing. But it is certainly warm, and could be described as darkish. Uncompromising music, a synthesis of ancient and modern (the result called fourth world). Though I've known of him for years I've just in the past week realized he is one of the greatest artists out there (to me). He joins the select few of acts I completely go gaga for.. Seefeel, Oval. Which reminds me.. latter-day Seefeel and earlier Oval are also very warm and dark in places, you might enjoy them also. If you want to create your own warm and dark ambient music get a dijiridu and drone on. =) Cheers, Brad
