Hi, I was living in London for the past four or so months, so here's a few suggestions:

Look out for Sprawl nights, Thursdays at Global Cafe. I can't remember the name of the square it's on, but easy to track down. They have interesting stuff going down, generally DJ sets. One of the two residents is si-cut db (bugger the punctuation, if you've heard his recordings). Anyway, a good mix of fairly current electronics from the residents, it's only 3 quid from memory, and free net access all night long. :)

Possibly pushing things re: IDM connection, but I also really enjoyed Monday nights at Bar Rumba (That's How It Is, hosted by Giles Peterson and Ben Watson). Damn eclectic from a more soul and funk filled angle. Most importantly, eclectic with the emphasis on "I want you to get down" rather than "Let me show you how much I know".

Re: record stores, there's lots of interesting places on Berwick St, in Soho, or right near there. Atlas, Sounds of the Universe (both very slim on CDs if you're into those), Sister Ray, Ambient Soho (also home of the label Worm Interface), and even Selectadisk (diverse range from pop through to heaps of vinyl of all sorts, good on post-rock stuff and more dancey/hip-hoppy stuff).

Yeah, I would've thought they'd be getting lots of comments on here. I love them, even if I wouldn't say I love all their stuff. When they hit the spot, they blow me away.

I also saw them live in London, with support from Fridge. Both came across well live.

I'm sure that'll be just "D", who is a guy who works in Rough Trade records (also very worth a look, in Neal's Yard, Covent Gardens, below City Skate). He runs (?) a label called Soul Static Sound whose output I highly recommend for those into mix ups of "band stuff" and "electronic stuff". To Rococo Rot and he collaborated on an ep called just "trrd", which I rate enormously.
