Quick and dirty PowerMac MP3 ripping recipe: Use something like Adaptec's Toast Audio Extractor 1.1 to pull in the CD track to a WAV file. Then use SoundEdit 16 version 2.0.x to convert the WAV file to MPEG-3. To do this you need some plug-ins for SoundEdit 16; specifically, things related to WAV import ("WAVE IMA Import", "WAVE IMA Export"), and SWA (MPEG-3) export ("SWA Streaming Xrta", "SWA Settings (SE16) Xtra", "SWA Settings (Dir) Xtra", "SWA Export Xtra", "SWA Compression Xtra", "Preverb", "Loop Tuner" and "Afterburner"). You can then import WAV files into SoundEdit 16 and export them as MPEG-3's (export as "SWA File" in the dialogue box). Note that SoundEdit 16 can import as WAV from CD as well, but I had troubles with it and found that Toast Audio Extractor worked a lot better. np: Aaron's bleepbloop show from last week (What *is* this awesome track with the sonar sounds and the crunchy Aphexian bits? The Jega track from the V/VM sampler 12"? I *must* own this ... ) Thanks Aaron ... but can you bump up the recording to 128 Kbits/44.1 KHz? hehe - Greg
