Date: 23rd April, 1999 Place: big hall of Oesterreich Radio 1, Vienna, Austria Entrance fee: 0 ATS We sat on comfortable leather armchairs. At 22:20 four men came on stage. Fennesz's position was back and right behind his laptop and machine (with machine I mean a box with buttons, I am not an expert so I can't tell what it was). Roedelius set in front in front of biiig black piano with machines and keyboards on his right. Booth and Brown with their laptops and machines were back and on left. Red light illuminated the scene. Roedelius stared solo on biiig black piano. After 5 minutes of 'nice little melody' Booth, Brown and Fennesz started adding noises and, at the beginning of this part, Auteche like rhythms. Piano faded out. Next 70 minutes were ambient heaven and hell. Sometimes a mixture of divine ambient backgrounds and ear friendly noise textures, sometimes hell on earth with speaker, ear and mind hostile noise installations. Event was concluded with Roedelius solo on piano. As far as I know this project was conducted by 65 years old Hans Joachim Roedelius freshen with Autechre's and Christian Fennesz's young blood. What can I say at the end? I booked for this event mainly to see Autechre for second time in my life and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them in this role. I don't regret 1000km that I made with my car to participate this event. PS The event was broadcasted and I hope that some Austrian, German or Slovenian IDMer recorded it. If it was so, I would like to have a copy. PSS Please forgive my 'strange' English.
