venue slowly filled up (very slowly_ got there very early myself as most of the record shops were closed and had pretty much deleted my funds) was a great venue and the crowd was really relaxed, not a real 'club' oriented crowd, which made me very happy.. djing tasks were passed along three different djs until Pole began. had no idea what to expect as the extent of my Pole listening has been limited to realaudio (can assure you this will change rather quickly). Pole's set seemed a bit on the short side as I could have listened *all* night to that :) Very spaced out, odd, dub heavy, sort of ambient. not at all what i expected, and I'd love to know if this is what the cd release i've seen on lists lately is like... it seemed that the few that i saw that were there that were looking for the club atmosphere cleared out pretty quick at that point as the set didn't really resemble much in the way of dancing music, although a few on the floor found it in themselves to dance straight through. actually, there was one guy up from who i referred to as 'Plastik' because he just danced the entire night away (leaving me to wallow in envy :) after Pole finished up there was a round of applause intiated by Pole (a friendly initiation, guy seemed extremely likeable up there... before he started he got the crowd to give a well deserved round of applause for the last dj) scion can on right away, proceeding to fill the room with something like 15 minutes or more of nothing but pulsating washes of reverb that i completely zoned out on. just when i'd reached a point where i had absolutely no idea what was going on anymore, beats started and it was just... wow :) beats picked up and just when it was all really going on and everyone was on the floor something blew and the music stopped. at first i thought maybe this was *supposed* to happen (it would have worked really well, if the music had just kicked back in) but suddenly there were a bunch of people on stage and Pole with a 12" on the turntable. after a few, everyth= ing was back to normal, the set started again, but it was pretty short lived as the music cut out again. After a bit of conferencing, pretty much everyone left the stage and one of the scion guys (did not know which was which) proceeded to continue djing. hung out for a bit after that, hoping they'd take another stab at the live stuff, but started to look like they wouldn't and found myself ready to take off. anyone at the show? did they try to finish the set later? for you chain reaction fanatics, there were numerous people recording the shows and at least one guy vidtaping the show. the venue was pretty cool about the vidtaping, actually took the guy upstairs where he'd get a much better view... thanks much to those who got me to the show... if its coming your way, definately go check it out... the Pole was incredible and I'm sure, if problems had not arisen, that the rest of the night would have probably topped it. xxxx@xxxxx.xxx icq_12645306 http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ (now with live visuals (cam.html)) coming sooner than later: sfwd0004 - pre-mil=B7len=B7ni=B7um soundscapes 12" our future has never been so frightening: http://williamshatner.com/
