I just heard from the tech who is looking at this Pearl SC40. "Very unfortunately although the pcb footprint looks like a normal Omron tactile switch from behind they turn out to be some cheap nasty carbon puck on a silicone dome type switch with a snap on custom cap (heck, even the CASIO CZ1000 uses Omron switches!). The carbon pucks suffer from the same issue as the ones in the Juno-106 keybed and lose conductivity and the silicone domes are supposed to act as tactile return springs but they are too weak as the plastic sliders are binding." He searched for replacements without success. It looks like pretty terminal news. Anyone have any ideas? The basic sound is excellent, so it will be really sad if this design means these machines don't survive. There are normal button caps and I assume that inside it is working with usual momentary switches.
