Kit Clayton's "nek sanalet" full length on ~scape records=20
+++++++++
The second release on ~scape records (Pole's new dub-
devoted label from Berlin). From this month's Wire magazine:

"Clayton's tracks are characterized by a mix of disembodied voices,=20
digital glitchery and tempestuous electronic squalls running amok over=20
rocksteady rythms." --Philip Sherburne

Remember Kit Clayton? That mysterious powerbookwizard,=20
who was behind "nek purpalet" on ~scape records (~scape001)?
The sequel has arrived. "nek sanalet" is his longplay debut on=20
Stefan Betke=B4s (Pole) label ~scape. It's even more day-dreamy,
way beyond echo than its predeccesor. Take the 'out of the woods'=20
Dub approach from the first ep add a little more flavour and you get=20
"nek sanalet". Straight to the head. These days, dub inna Kit Clayton=20
style, is the one and only method to crack your skull.=20

Designed to clear your view. "nek sanalet" is an excellent panorama
in dub. Put on your headphones, set the virtual glasses straight if=20
you will. Then, Kit Clayton appears as a colorful, hologrammatic=20
guide. He is thee observer. And "nek sanalet" is his device to open
all borders to dubland. In show view, multi-dimensional dubbing with=20
the Observer. In the old times folks said "musical shower every hour".

For "nek sanalet" aproximate traveltime is about 45 minutes. During the=20
roundtrip you will be carried through all the interesting corners and=20
niches of the electronic danceworld. It's a little more heavy down there
than usual because of =B2nek sanalet=B2, the device is wearing a dub filter.
Be glad to have Kit Clayton as a tourguide with you because he mixed=20
emotion into his subsonic bass.

These 8 tracks are 'all killer no filler'. Perfectly programmed, dark=20
like a cloud, creepy crawling into every inch of your body. Versatility=20
shows in the minimal techdub of "nele" and in the almost beatless,=20
melancholic "inapiseptili". Kit Clayton is calming you down, he lets you
'know' in the very sense of the word, what will happen down there in the
next echo. "nek sanalet" is testament to his musical vision. A highly=20
thoughtful urban vision.

As with "nek purpalet" (which translates to world of spirits), all the=20
tracktitles are borrowed from the indiginous language of the Cuna. "nek=20
sanalet" (world of substance), then is to be regarded as the opposite of
its predecessor. Which means, balance of the forces are at work. Tracks=20
like "kalu" (=3Dspiritual fortress), "aspoket" (=3Dstatue), or "nia-ikala"=
=20
(=3Dway of the devil) are manifest to an inner meaning, a hidden reality.=20
Music is a means to remember the past, to foresee the shape of things to
come, and to understand what is happening at present.

Kit Clayton is living in San Francisco. Besides developing computerbased
software, he is operating various labels (Cytrax, Delay, Mimic and the=20
Model, Orthlorng Musork). In the past three years, Clayton also released
material on such US labels as Phtalo, Plug Research, Parallel, Organized
Noise, and Drop Beat.

~scape records: label bio

Since the invention of the echospiral, dub stands for the search for the
impossible, the fictive, the invention of unknown kingdoms of sounds and
sonic worlds of fantasy. As a type of music based on studio techniques,=20
dub exists more imaginatively than realistically. It buzzes in the heads
of the producers, just like in the echo devices, with a combination of=20
human spirit and the desperate growl of overloaded pieces of technology.
Dub is about the bass and its unavoidable consequences: the depth of the
bass pushing the entire tonal burden mercilessly to one side. The only=20
sound which seems to remain is a minimalistic groove, which defines the=20
rough frame as nothing more than a playground of thoughts, leaving the=20
listeners to fill the space in their own individual way. It=B4s due to=20
this minimalism that dub functions as a musical genre in several=20
different environments without any problems, including both urban=20
structures and natural ones.

Let=B4s talk about the city. Modern urban dub is not so much a progression
of musical history, but rather a transfer of conceptual ideas into=20
different musical contexts. Dub as a method goes far beyond the=20
measurable border, it reflects, projects and infiltrates. The digital=20
tugging, creaking melancholic, pleasantly warm sound of urban dub=20
retains the slightly uncanny orchestration of our cities. Dub has the=20
power to create a bearable structure for the anonymous commercial=20
centers of the inner cities. It can fade out the seizure of the inner=20
cities by industrial giants and temporarily stop the disappearance of=20
public spaces.

~scape records is a new label from Berlin, which intends to concentrate=20
on exactly this modern city dub. Founded and managed by Stefan Betke who
has (under the name Pole) helped to establish and develop this sound=20
during the last two years like no other with his releases on Kiff SM and
DIN.

~scape records is unequivocally groove-oriented and will be responsible=20
in the future for the new automatica installation of dub music in the=20
DJ=B4s preferred form of 12" vinyl in clubs all over this world. At the=20
same time ~scape records will take care for the production of=20
full-length albums, making it possible for the sound to jump from the=20
DJ=B4s records case directly into the listeners' sitting rooms.

~scape records defines itself as a platform for those of kindred spirit.
