how about 1 category. 10 best releases of '98. if we really must have categories lets do it by format i.e. full length vs single/ep/mini lp/everything else, at a push. there's so much good stuff out there, but imo some of the best is the hardest to categorize. plus you end up voting for records that are not as good as others that you don't get to vote for. this year i'd really strain for a drum'n'bass, or does horse opera count? is the new squarepusher drum'n'bass, idm or 'ex kinda drum'n'bass or idm(like)er makes dodgy jazz record' category just so people can vote for it if they wish. and whats diskono x+y? compilation, vinyl only release, single, 2 singles or a mini lp? all that guff about best artist, label, remix etc could all be deduced from the results of a poll w/out categories. stuff categories. unless its best pork pie of the year. martin
