hi all,

elektro bunker, one of the best parties every year in cologne, happened
here yesterday, bringing together some nyc and cologne legends (mostly from
around the respective cities' liquid skies) in a post-industrial setting
while encouraging to "shoot gunz, not drugz". besides some amazing dj sets
two live performances really stood out: frank heiss played an incredibly
funky set, mostly breakbeats in a 370=B0 style but much tougher and groovier
at the same time, kinda hard to describe. I strongly recommend checking him
out should you get the chance. when the day broke, dr walker vs the bionaut
(j=F6rg burger) came on - I found myself quite surprised to find burger not
responsible for the xbase09 but for a... fender stratocaster. so walker
kept cranking out his trademark loops on the xbase09, shattering your
bones, "destroying your genez" as the flyer promised, deafening your ears
no matter what the db rating on your earplugs was (I pity the suckers who
didn't wear any) while burger looped guitar licks at some time and produced
basslines so deep I thought you needed two strings less on your instrument
for at another. I get the feeling that the guitar is becoming a more widely
accredited instrument in electronic music (I'm talking about electronic
music, not prodigy or whatever), and I'm hearing more and more tracks where
guitars are used very creatively without sounding like cheap effects in a
rock music way nor sounding pseudo-jimi hendrix-like in an "illbient",
soundlab or whatever, way. but of course mike p has known that all along,
'reflectiv' on salsa and mesquite makes me shiver every time. I'm
digressing, cheers, cologne rules,
