In one particularly tedious spell of employment five years ago I was playing Wire's 'comeback' EP from 1985 (can't remember the name). A generally tragic bloke commented that it sounded like punk played by musicians - which I found to be a wonderful distillation. The same week I played my copy of The Philosophy of Sound and Machine; that didn't go down very well... adam
