Distortion boxes are essentially compressors (in addition to
drastically changing the tone color) and so are going to boost any
noise present in the input. It may help to reduce the signal level
going into the distortion, though of course this gets you less
distortion as well. A limiter would also amplify the noise relative to
the signal level.

The off-the-shelf solution is a noise gate (pedal/effects box). Try it
between the TB-303 and the distortion, or after the distortion. Either
way should help, but one may be better than the other.
